The Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Center for Creativity concluded a week-long celebration of Digital Learning (DL) by holding it’s own Digital Learning Day at its Homestead, Pennsylvania facility on Friday, March 13, 2015. The Digital Learning Day capped off a week of activities designed to promote and share ways that area districts and schools are successfully incorporating digital learning into their curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Throughout the week, educators were asked to share ways they are using DL via social media using the tag #AIUDLD. Districts and teachers posted pictures, videos, and links of their innovative means of using DL to engage students in learning throughout the week.
On Digital Learning Day, educators from all over the region gathered to share the practical ways they they were implementing 21st Century tools in their schools and classrooms. Fellow teachers and educators were able to take a deeper dive into technologies utilized by the presenters as they modeled the methods they currently employ. Participants were inspired to take the ideas back to their classrooms from the many sessions which included topics such as: 3D Printing, GoPro Cameras in the Physics Classroom, Digital Tools for Learning from Common Sense Media, Busting Boundaries with Videoconferencing, Power-up Presentations with PowToon, Modular Robotics & Game Design, Computational Thinking: The New Literacy, Going Google, Choice-based Education, and using Augmented Reality with Aurasma.

Joseph Welch of North Hills School District demonstrates how he and fellow teacher Larry Dorenkamp use augmented reality in their 8th grade History classes.

Dr. Daniel Harrold of Baldwin High School shows how he has gamified his British Literature course for seniors.
